Marancinho Route in Amarante
owes its name to the fact that a good part of the journey unfolds along the river of the same name and also because the of the expression " Marancinho " (Marãozinho / little Marão) one of the major references of the natural heritage of this region.
Starting and ending by the Romanesque church of Gondar and extending to the territories of Gondar, Lufrei and Vila Chã, this route, more than six kilometers long, is mainly formed by ancestral ways and footpaths, including a beautiful stretch of the old Roman Way, which linked Amarante, Tongobriga (near Marco de Canavezes) and the rock sanctuary of Panóias (a few kilometers from the town of Vila Real).
Changing between the valley and the mountain site, sometimes elapsing between crops and pastures, sometimes through thickets and groves of pines, oaks and chestnut trees, the itinerary includes not only rich and varied fauna and flora, but several regional icons of historical and cultural interest, highlighting the Romanesque church of Gondar and the remains of the ancient Roman Way. The Marancinho Route is a registered and approved route, by the Camping and Mountaineering Federation.
S. Bento Route,
starting on Rua river beach, Aboadela,unfolds itself for over 12 km, through Aboadela, Sanche, Olo, Vila Cha and Gondar.
After going through Sanche, we come to the place of Cruzeiro, Gondar.
The route passes through a section of the old Roman Way, along the riverside of Marancinho, where one can still observe a Roman pontoon on the river and a few dozen meters of the old Way, standing due to the slope of the land, by a sturdy wall bracket .
The Roman Way went by Sanche, crossing the Ovelha river at a site named Rua, then crossing the Marão range by Lameira and continuing towards Panóias.
Subsequently, a steep path takes us to the mountaintop, 550 meters high, in a place called Picotos.
The Lameira Itinerary
The paths of Lameira invite to a careful tour on the mountain, because almost invisible tracks of some species can arise at anytime.
Among verdant glades and large thickets, the Leijido brook creates a natural scenery of excellence for the boar, whose presence may be felt by marks on the soil, made in search of tubers, roots and insects.
