In summer 2010 the Route of Amarante, Ecopista Linha do Tâmega, is already fully built and may be used with entire convenience and safety.
More than 9 kilometers on an exclusive cycling track, grounded on a bituminous floor composed in earth colors, giving comfort and versatility through lower rolling resistance. The Ecopista has a constant width of 3.50 meters being flanked by timber crossbars, thus recalling the ?chulipas?*, where the rails of the old railway line sat.
Along the route, cyclists have garden benches and paper baskets, as well as public illumination between the train stations of Amarante and Gatão.
The Ecopista provides signage in granite and aluminum, consisting of informative panels and kilometric marks for location and direction.
Concerning the vegetation in the surrounding areas, the Ecopista Linha do Tâmega, provides the maintenance of the existing green zones, mainly through the creation of a fresh circulation track, with the densification of trees for shading.
